he's a poser

I've never known a little boy to be so happy to pose for pictures.
I guess someday he will not want to sit still for it, but for now he loves having his picture taken as much as I love taking them. He'll happily jump from one lap to the next and flash you a big smile. Then he jumps down and wants you to show him the picture.
I guess that's one more good thing about digital cameras, kids get to see the result right away of sitting still for a picture instead of waiting for film to be developed.

it seems like forever

Its hard for me to be creative in the summer months.
There's so much more going on that its hard to come inside and head into the scrap studio. But new pictures from vacation and cooler temps have inspired me. Things feel fresh again after taking a few months off and I really enjoyed creating again. Here's a little bit of what I've been up to lately.

Labor Day get away

labor day weekend and we decided on Wednesday to head to the ocean for an over night stay. After checking several hotels I was finally able to find us a room at a nice place, at a decent rate. On Friday morning we headed out, hoping the weather would cooperate and stay nice, although the weather report said a chance of rain....
We got there in time for lunch at our favorite BBQ spot, then checked in at the hotel. The weather seemed to be holding up so we spent the afternoon strolling on the beach, eating salt water taffy and watching the sun set, followed by a bucket of steamers and some key lime pie!

Saturday morning we woke up to beautiful blue sky's and not a trace of wind...a rare thing indeed on the coast. We headed to Canon Beach for breakfast and spent the morning strolling around the shops in town before a long walk on the beach at Haystack rock.
Haystack Rock is a wildlife preserve for Puffins. If you click on the picture you can probably see them ...They make their nests all over this big huge rock, and when the tide is out, the base of it is covered with starfish and sea anemones. The beach is wide and flat and a great place to rent sand bikes. Really a beautiful beach.

For lunch (because sometimes its all about the food LOL) we headed to Manzenita Beach. Another big"rock" along the way- 'cause I think they're cool ;)
They have the best little deli in Manzenita called the Bread and Sea. She makes all her own salads and bread right there in the deli. The sandwiches are TDF and almost worth the trip alone. We grabbed a few picnic lunches in a box (which included a big molasses cookie and a salad) and headed to the beach. Paul had the most yummy yam and black bean salad in his boxed lunch. A weird combination but it was really really good. Im going to try and find a recipe for it somewhere.

All in all, it was one of the most perfect weather weekends to the ocean I think we've ever had.
I'm hoping we get back down there again before fall. I found that September is the best weather for them so I'll be checking the calendar for another free weekend really soon.
