Favorite places

We just returned from the first full week in Bend this year.
And did it ever feel good. Not sure when we'll get the chance to go back for a full week, but it probably won't be until late summer, or early fall.
We've developed quite a list of "favorite places". So many, that we often can't get to them all, even when we're there for a full week.
Last week I found a new favorite place. Its right down the road from one of our other favorite places, McKays Cottage.

When the sun is shinning, its fabulous to sit outside. When its a little chilly, they bring you soft cozy blankets to put on your lap.
And, they make the most amazing pumpkin pancakes I've ever eaten.

Another favorite spot is Jacksons corner. I think at one time this old building must have been the corner grocery or hardware store or something like that. I'll have to do some reserch on it. Its definitely been around awhile, thats for sure. Love places like this.   It has warn plank wood floors and a wood fired oven.  Its nestled right in the middle of an older neighborhood.   Wish it was within walking distance of our house.
and they have fresh squeezed orange juice...mmmm newest favorite place is called Pomegranates home and garden.  This cute shop is set up in an old house and outbuildings.

The Barn is full of the outdoor that light!

Inside the main house is set up to display items that would be found in that, the kitchen area holds all the kitchen gadgets, the upstairs bedrooms hold the bed linens and children's things.
This is a peek into the living room area. That wooden bowl on the table there came home with me. :-)

This shopping cart was upstairs in the children's bedroom. Full of Dammit Dolls .... I probably need one of those some days.

The nursery upstairs had this old crib full of pillows made from vintage tablecloths.
Loved them. Very soft and squishy with feather pillow inserts. But, I know that somewhere I have a tablecloth that has a few stains on it...and now I know what to do with it.

I bought a few things, that wooden bowl from the living room and a cute linen apron that I found in the kitchen. Out in the barn we also found a solar lantern for the patio thats really cool.

I love shops like this. You can always find the cutest things in them.

I'll take more pictures next time, which I hope will be over the July 4th weekend. They're having a huge outdoor vintage market. Cant wait to go again.

One year later, before and after

I've been wanting to put together a little before and after of what we've done at the house so far. We've had the house for one full year now and have made quite a bit of progress so far, although its mostly been elbow grease, paint and furniture. No major remodeling of anything.

Its kind of fun to look back and see how far we've come, considering we just go a few times per month for a day or two at a time...
Starting with the progress we've made in the living room area
Here's right inside the front door, looking toward the back of the house

and Now-

Looking to the right toward the master

and Now-

Looking in the opposite direction from the dinning room, looking back toward the front door

and Now

From the master looking across the living room toward the other two bedrooms and bath

and Now

then back across at the master

not exactly the same angle, but a little of the kitchen before,

and after

Next time we go down I'll try to get some pictures of the bedrooms, bathrooms and yard to show the progress we've made there.

simple gifts are the best

Usually I have a hard time finding something for Mom for Mom's day.
This year I got a really good hint of what she wanted when I made this for my sister for her birthday in February....

A broken pot, some moss, ferns, hens and chicks from the yard and a cute little gnome...done.
When I gave it to my sister, I heard Mom say, I want one!  I wasn't sure if she was just saying that to be polite or not, but when I walked in on Mom's day with one for her, she was thrilled.

Hers is a little different from this one, but I can't find the picture I took of it. She got a cute little bird bath with a frog in it and a brass birdhouse instead of a gnome and a brass bird feeder.
Both she and my dad said that she had said that she sure hoped I was going to make her one.
When I walked in with the bag I was carrying it in she said " I sure hope that's what I think it is!"
haha...she's so happy to please, Im glad I took her up on her request and simple gifts are always best

dusting things off, and opening the windows

Its been awhile...a long while. Actually, its been just shy of a year since my last blog post.
I've often thought about the blog, but I've gone months and months without it even crossing my mind.
A few times I've thought of closing it down. Then I come back here and poke around a bit and find all the posts that I cared so much about...all the stories about our life.
Its kinda sad, them sitting here all alone.
And I don't want to loose them.
So, I keep it.

And Im kinda sad that Im no longer keeping those stories of our life.
So, its time to throw open the window, let in the spring air and dust off the cobwebs and get back to work.

Knowing I've written our stories down and can come back and read them anytime feels right.
